Check out the new Lake Superior view lot listing on the Home page. www.backlundrealty.com/bm/listings/120000-grand-marais-mn.shtml
Not sure if you saw the pic of the World's Best Donut Shop sign on the Home page, but I thought I'd remind folks that summer in Grand Marais is officially kicking off Wednesday, May 20th at 5am. www.worldsbestdonutsmn.com I know where I'll be at.
Did you know this year will be their 40th Anniversary?!! Seems like last week that they had their 20th.
Click the link for a great video.www.youtube.com/watch Stacy and Dee, Grandma (Merieta) is dang proud of you.
A few days ago things were a little nerve wracking in Grand Marais with a robbery suspect on the loose somewhere in the County of Cook. A lot of people who normally don't think of locking their doors were doing so, and keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.
This whole event had me thinking back to when I was little kid and my Grandma Lizzy (Betty B's mom) would watch us when my folks went somewhere for a night or two.
Anyway, each night before bedtime my Grandma would say, "let's go lock the doors," and we would go in the kitchen and she'd pull out two big knives and we would walk over to the back door and she'd slide them in the cracks between the wall and the door trim (see example in actual door) and she'd look down at me and wink, and say, "this'll keep Dillinger out." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dillinger
Mind you this was about 30 years after he was dead. Either way, it made for a full nights sleep.
Freebie trivia question for tonight. On the Gunflint Trail what is the distance in miles between the Greenwood Lake Rd. and the Gunflint Lake Rd.? Good for 6 pts. in the closest to department.
Betty B's Norwegian/English lesson of the day.
Skorp Pronounced: score/p Definition: The leftover edges from a pan of baked goods so as not to leave hard edges on ones bars for weddings, coffee an' or funerals. Bars served with excess skorp will bring unspoken shame to the cook and the cooks family. Skorp is a by-product of baked goods and not to be shared with guests or those outside the immediate family unit. Skorp is usually dunked in hot liquid (coffee) so as to make it worth eating. Skorp can take many forms, i.e. pie crust, scrammbled egg, etc.
Skorpa or Skorps (plural)
Note picture: A small plate of skorps. (Plate arranged and photographed while cook was on the phone in the other room.)
