Happy Father's Day Dad. I was so lucky to have you as an example of how to be a Dad.

On June 5th I got to see my baby boy (aka Seth) graduate from Cook County High School. Since his brother Ty went into the Army Reserve early last year I didn't get to see his graduation. So this year, getting to be a part of a graduation ceremony was extra special for me. Not to mention this was the 100th Anniversary commencement of CCHS.

The graduation festivities had the retirement farewell of legendary CCHS band teacher Bill Tormondsen (Class of 61') and special guest speaker Olympian Cindy Nelson (Class of 73'). But the coolest moment of the evening was when Principle Gwen Carmen had all those who graduated from CCHS in the 2000's please stand, and then the 1990's, and on and on she went. When she said the 1940's Betty B. (Class of 44') shot out of her chair with an ear to ear grin. Pretty cool I thought. Then she got down to the 1920's and slowly Mabel (Johnson) Stoltz stood up to a standing ovation. Can you say goose bumps? Mabel you're looking pretty darn nifty for 99 years young. I know what your thinking, yes she's Matt Johnson's daughter from Matt Johnson's Store fame.

The next day we had a little grad party for the graduate, and with all the luck we could muster it didn't rain. 

As good as it feels to get my kids through CCHS and not have to worry about their grades anymore it's still a little sad how fast the time went by.

Sorry about being behind the times when it comes to posting the last three weeks of trivia results, but I've been up to my eyeballs with real estate listings and sales (not that I'm complaining), not to mention two graduations and the "Baseball Extravaganza".

A couple of weeks ago I was looking at the Things to "Go Do" (see here) www.backlundrealty.com/bm/blog/activities/index.shtml on my Local Activities drop down tab under the Blog tab on my Home page and found a few things that I hadn't gone an did for a long long time. Sooo, my wife and I hiked up to the top of Pincushion. While we were at it, it dawned on me that I hadn't been to the top of it since I was around 10 yrs old, so I figured now was a good time to get'r did.

When I was up there last I believe it was with my dad and Paul Johnson as we took the ol' 12/3 Ski-Doo right up top and drove it around a bit. Kinda fun. Sorry, now a days it's off limits to 12/3 Ski-Doos and all other motorized vehicles, so you have to hoof it in on people power. 

See pix below. From the top of Pincushion there's a 360 view of Grand Marais, Lake Superior and Five Mile Rock to name a few of the sights. There's also a great view of the Lake View Dairy Farm, which is also at the top of the Things to "Go Do" list. Going to the Lake View Dairy Farm is kinda like playing Farmville on Facebook..........except it's real.
