CONGRATS ANDERS!!
Anders Zimmer medals in Michigan & makes National Junior Team
Anders Zimmer 14, of Grand Marais has been named to the U.S. Junior National Alpine Team after qualifying in Marquette, MI this past week, where he competed against the best 90 racers from 10 other states. While in Michigan, Anders competed in the slalom, giant slalom & downhill earning him enough points to make the team.
The excitement came for Anders with a medal for the downhill race portion of the event where Ander put down three incredible runs that resulted in a 4th, 8th, 9th place finish for the three races.
Anders is now off to Vail, CO to race in the Junior Olympics from March 1 – 13. He will be racing in all four disciplines ( slalom, giant slalom, super g, & downhill ) where he is a favorite to place very high in the super g & the downhill where they will be hitting speeds around 75 mph. While in Vail, CO. Anders will be racing with the best 80 racers in the United States, where the top 4 racers of the Junior Olympics will be sent to Whistler, British Colombia to represent Team USA in the Whistler Cup (North American Games), the same site as the current Winter Olympics are being held now.
So the next time you see Anders give him the thumbs up and tell em', "it's all about the speed."
